Southern Infrastructure Corridor

CORRIDOR INVESTIGATION

The Project

South East Queensland is one of Australia’s most desirable places to live and is expected to grow from a population of 2.7 million in 2006 to 4.2 million in 2031. In an effort to provide affordable housing and accommodate this expected growth, the Urban Land Development Authority has proposed a number of state development areas. Two of these large scale developments, namely Flagstone and Yarrabilba, are situated approximately 45 minutes south of Brisbane.

Investigations to date have demonstrated that the current road network is not sufficient to support such development and have triggered the need for further studies.  Geleon were commissioned to investigate a possible east – west link to provide connectivity for Flagstone and Yarrabilba to the Gold Coast and Brisbane.

The investigation was focussed on identifying a possible road corridor to accommodate the link as a basis for future development.

Our Role

Geleon was engaged to:

  •  Consider previous planning and proposals
  •  Coordinate planning efforts with smaller projects that were in progress
  •  Define project constraints
  •  Liaise with key stakeholders
  •  Provide project management services through the planning phase
  •  Options analysis investigating an array of possible alignment options
  •  Develop corridor plans showing the proposed corridor
  •  Accommodate Delfin Lend Lease planning for Yarrabilba to ensure integration
  •  Participate and present stakeholder briefings through a number of workshops
  •  Develop 12d model visualisations

The Results

Geleon successfully:

  •  Developed a feasible corridor that could accommodate an east - west link to provide  a sustainable transport solution
  •  Integrated local and state planning to interface with desired land use schemes
  •  Deliver comprehensive 12d modelling and visualisations to assist in presentation of  options
  •  Delivered corridor investigation drawings identifying the proposed corridor for  preservations and future development
  •  Provide key input to the corridor investigation report
  •  Maintained a high level of client and stakeholder communication and engagement
